Guild Wars is not about drops and making money. If those are the things that interest you most, you are playing the wrong game.

I don't get why some people whine for the "good old Prophecies time" so much, really. Prophecies, let me think, that was that campaign where the "Starter Island" lasts for about 75% of the entire game (Dragon's Lair is the first full-party mission in it), that except UW and FoW had no end-game content whatsoever, zero replayability and the best part of all boring missions in the game (Mag-yawn-a Jungle anyone)? Yes, it looks beautiful. But hands down, all other campaigns except maybe EotN are much better than Prophecies.

Back on topic: Hard Mode was mainly a good thing, apart from the scaling being broken in some places (namely the 4-man areas in Prophecies). But in the end it was only one thing that changed GW into something else than it used to be. Most of the changes were good - some weren't.

I'd say the day titles were introduced is the biggest thing that really changed Guild Wars.

GW is gud, all this multicampaign idea is gud, and HM is aweasome.

Yes, we there aresome problems around GW, some imbalances, some ever-moaning people but still its a gud game, change is gud. :P

But HM actually did change GW PvE forever, and it was a mojooor change to the game so I think everyone should be /signed for some HM weekend (as long as it wont be about having greater chance of having rare skin weapons).

/signed (but not for rare wep drop thingie)

I think Prophecies was good, and Factions was good.

But when Nightfall came out....Ugh.. things just seemed to die out and everyone spread out way too much.

Because the addition of 3 titles requiring more than 1 million platinum and one title requiring 10000 ids and another requiring 10000 high end keys wasn't all about drops or money?

I don't see how Factions was much of a change. Factions continued the PvP-centric focus of the original vision of Guild Wars. It introduced a number of new PvP concepts and, again, basically left PvE as a beginner's area (although the PvE in Factions blew chunks compared to the PvE in Proph...).

Nightfall was the major change, I would argue. It was around the release of Nightfall that ANET finally started acknowledging that not everybody thinks screaming obscenities into vent is fun and actually tried to create some new PvE content. Shame they made it so easy, though.... I've done most of Nightfall drunk.

Unfortunately, I think Nightfall was the point where you just had too many skills. Nerfs fly free and heavy now with little regard for the consequences, there are tons of c-space solo builds, and they've just lost control of the entire thing due to its size.

Nightfall would have made a great Prophecies, and Prophecies, with it's limited vision, would have made a great expansion to the story arc, but I think introducing all the cool PvE stuff that late in the game just kind of screwed everything up.

Nope, its not just you.

Introduction of new campaigns was the first step in the downward grind spiral known as Guild Wars.

They should have skipped the campaigns and just went to expansions.

If we are going to Ludicrous mode, will we turn "plaid"?

The problem with increased difficulty is that they will actually have to "Buff" Ursan or 99.99% of the players will whine.

And when, pray tell, did they do that?

TexMod doesn't alter the client, nor does GWx2, nor does any of kunt0r's mods.

3 mil is chump change for anyone going for GWAMM, which is the ultimate goal of title seekers. The wisdom and treasure hunter titles are not necessary for it.

I'm going for GWAMM, 3 million is not chump change, it's a hell of a lot of work. Not to mention, it's actually closer to 6 million, depending on how much you pick up fireworks for.

And just because Wisdom and Treasure aren't necessary for GWAMM, doesn't exclude the fact that they are in the game and attainable.

I do agree that there are games where loot and money grind are required. In GW all the grind is essentially optional, and doesn't have any real benefit for your chars. That makes loot scaling even more pointlessly stupid. But there is plenty to grind for if you feel inclined to do so and want one "perfect copy" of every item.

You can do Kurzick HFFF for it and get both a maxed title and enough money to finance your booze or sweets. 10,000,000/800*150 = 1,875,000 gold. That's almost enough for ale hound or connoisseur if you went the dwarven ale and red bean cake route. You can then do Luxon HFFF (at about half the speed of Kurzick HFFF) for another maxed title and the remaining booze/sweets one. Not that any of this is exactly fun, but there are only 26 (27 if you include Survivor) actual gameplay titles anyway.

Oh, that would spill me to tears and make me play the game for 8 days in a row without sleeping/eating... Prophecies was the best game i ever played after mass effect and KotOR I & II.

IMO the days that changed guild wars forever are:

1) the day Factions came out.
The reason is, that prophecies was actually hard to play through with only a "few" skills. Factions, and later Nightfall and EotN added soooooo many skills, that the old ones were buried and forgotten, and the game basically got nerfed because of the massive amounts of imba skills. Back then missions were hard because u didnt have for ex. ursan or HB (which didnt come out in factions, of course). The world of Tyria was just excellent as it was, period.

2) The day when heroes were introduced.
I really loved to play with PUGs back at prophecies. When heroes came out, the game pretty much turned out to be a single player game. I remember when i first time played through Thunderhead Keep with a pug: I was very happy to have gotten through one of the hardest missions of the game. Now i can just bring sabway necros there and make it through with eyes closed and hands behind my back.
Also for example Sorrows Furnace was a very hard spot for me 2 years ago. I was there yesterday with a guildie who bought all the gw's 2 months back. He said it was a boring run-through. The game has gotten so much easier

3) The day when inscriptions were introduced.
Prices started to sink dramatically. 2 years ago +30hp sword hilts were like 50k, and so were 10/10 sundering's. Nowadays every single guy can buy him/herself a perfect weapon for a very low amount of money.

4) Ursan.
This pretty much ruined many parts of the game, since there is almost no place where an ursan party wouldnt simply dominate everything.

I'll add some things to this post if i come up.

I have played this game for 31 monts, having lots of breaks. Everytime I have returned from a break, I have noticed some things going for the worse. I am about to retire from GW for now, and maybe start again with GW2. I hope ANet makes the game as good as prophecies was in the beginning, and I really hope that they won't do any of the same mistakes they have done with their current game.
